Land and Water Conservation Fund Coalition
Jodi Stemler Consulting worked with the Land and Water Conservation Fund Coalition on communications and media outreach from 2009 to 2014. The coalition is working to reauthorize and fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has directed revenues from offshore oil and gas development for land conservation and outdoor recreation. The program is one of the most effective, and yet little known, programs that affects every American through the development of urban parks and greenways to the protection of the country’s most iconic landscapes. Jodi’s efforts on the project included managing the production of the coalition’s 50th Anniversary report, coordinating with partners on earned media that has resulted in hundreds of opinion pieces and articles over the years, and overseeing the development of a campaign website.

When the Land and Water Conservation Fund celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2014, Jodi Stemler Consulting coordinated the efforts to develop a report for the LWCF Coalition to celebrate this important occasion. This included significant writing and editing responsibilities, coordinating the design and production process, and ensuring that a very tight deadline was met with an outstanding final product. The report was released on July 23, 2014 – the 50th Anniversary of LWCF’s passage in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Sportsmen and Media Outreach

Throughout the time working with the LWCF Coalition, Jodi Stemler Consulting has coordinated outreach to the media. In recent years, this has focused on connecting with outdoor writers and the sportsmen’s community. Specific outdoor media outreach has included sportsmen’s telepress conferences associated with key legislative issues, including proposed budget cuts in spring 2011 and the potential inclusion of conservation funding in the Transportation bill in 2012.

Jodi organized a special session on the Land and Water Conservation Fund during the 2014 North American Wildlife and Natural Resources Conference. The session featured a range of speakers representing outdoor industry, state fish and wildlife agencies, non-profit organizations, and outside business leaders. The session was well attended and generated significant discussion on the topic of LWCF reauthorization throughout the remainder of the conference.

Now managed directly by the coalition, the site gets regular traffic from individuals across the country who want to engage on this important land conservation initiative.
